Working in Bedminster Down
Bedminster Down is a mix of interwar semis and newer infill around Bedminster Down Road, Cheddar Grove and Donald Road, close to Parson Street station. That range means everything from fuse board upgrades and rewires in the older houses to EV chargers and extra circuits in the more modern homes.
We are close by in BS13, so quotes and call-outs to Bedminster Down are quick, the estimate is free, and the price is fixed before we start.
If you're looking for Bedminster itself, down the hill in BS3, our electrician in Bedminster page covers the Victorian terraces and rented flats around North Street and East Street.
Bedminster Down homes: drives, garages and older circuits
Heading out of the city on the A38 towards the airport, you climb through Bedminster Down, the high ground above Bedminster, with Parson Street station down at its foot. The housing is largely between-the-wars semis, some with a side garage or drive, plus later homes built on spare plots, with Headley Park and Bishopsworth next door.
Houses from that period were normally built with electric lighting and a few sockets, but that first generation of cable, rubber-covered or sheathed in lead, is long past its life, and most have been rewired since, often decades ago. What tends to turn up now is an older consumer unit without RCD protection, circuits extended to serve kitchens and extensions, and bonding that has not kept pace with the changes. A test settles whether a replacement board plus remedial work will do, or whether a house rewire makes more sense.
Garages, extensions and loft rooms
Turning a garage into a room, extending the kitchen or converting the loft all add circuits, and the existing board may not have the spare ways or the protection to take them. We plan the new circuits and the board together, so the house ends up with one tidy installation rather than a string of add-ons. In the newer houses the board is usually modern already, and the work is more about extra circuits, lighting and chargers.
Charging a car on the drive
With off-street parking, charging at home is normally an option. We confirm the size of the main fuse and what the incoming supply can deliver, plan a cable route from the board to the drive, and deal with the earthing arrangement, which matters more for charge points than for most circuits. Every installation is notified to the network operator and certificated; our charge point installation page sets out the prices.
When something keeps tripping
Random tripping, or a circuit that has gone dead, usually points to a fault somewhere along that circuit: an outside light letting in water, a damp socket, a tired junction box under the floor. Finding it means testing each circuit in turn rather than guessing at which fitting is to blame.
