Builders keep us
Nobody keeps the same electrician for twenty years by accident. We turn up when we say we will, we work to your programme, and we deal with your customer directly so you are never stuck in the middle relaying messages.
Card number C0092657
Luke Hawker holds an Electrotechnical Certification Scheme gold card as an Installation Electrician, JIB grade Electrician, endorsed BS 7671:2018. It is CSCS affiliated, so it is accepted on CSCS controlled sites, and it is carried on site.
You can verify it yourself at ECS Check on ecscard.org.uk using card number C0092657. You do not have to take our word for it.
NAPIT membership 23603
Registered since 14 November 2014, twelve years without a break, and subject to periodic surveillance throughout.
Covered properly, underwritten by Hiscox
Placed through NAPIT Insurance. A broker's letter confirming all three covers is available on request, and most managing agents and main contractors will want it for their file.
Up to date with Amendment 4
BS 7671 Amendment 4 was published in 2026 and it changes how a lot of work has to be designed and tested. Luke has completed the entire update programme, all five modules, every one of them this year.
Parts 1 to 4
Parts 5 to 6
Parts 7 to 8
Appendices
Amendment 4 was published by the IET and BSI on 15 April 2026, and the previous edition of the wiring regulations is withdrawn six months later, on 15 October 2026 (IET and BSI, 15 April 2026). After that date every new certificate has to be issued against the new amendment, so we got the training done in the same year it was published rather than waiting for the deadline.
Recurring compliance work
If you manage property, these are the certificates that have to stay in date. We handle the lot, and we watch the dates so you do not have to.
Fire alarm and emergency lighting obligations usually fall in the same month. Whenever you book one we check whether the other is due, which saves you a second visit and keeps both certificates in date.
The five year cycle is not just good practice, it is the law for rented property. Under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, an inspection is required at intervals of no more than five years, and this has applied to every existing tenancy since 1 April 2021 (IET Wiring Matters). See our electrical testing page for how we run the inspection itself.
The practical detail
Our tester is calibrated and traceable to NPL
A test result is only as good as the instrument that produced it. Ours is a Megger MFT1741 multi-function tester, calibrated every 52 weeks by Test Instrument Calibrations Ltd, with measurements traceable to the National Physical Laboratory.
Number SCN-JV30977, issued by an ISO 9001 registered laboratory, registration 2100450. Complies with ISO 10012:2003.
Megger MFT1741, serial number 102056193. Recalibration period 52 weeks, so it never drifts out of date without us knowing.
Every parameter passed. Earth loop impedance, RCD trip current and time, mains voltage, low ohms, continuity and insulation resistance at 250V, 500V and 1000V.
A written policy, even though we do not have to have one
Below five employees there is no legal duty to write a health and safety policy down. Main contractors ask for one anyway, so we wrote one properly: a statement of intent, who is responsible, and seventeen sets of practical arrangements covering everything from safe isolation to asbestos to waste.
Circuits treated as live until proved dead. Lock off, warning notice, prove, test, re-prove. Instruments to GS38. We do not work live.
Written for the specific task and sent to you before we attend, whenever you ask for one. Our RAMS template is downloadable below, with twelve common hazards already assessed and a briefing record to sign.
We do not disturb suspect materials. In a pre-2000 building we ask for the register first, and if something turns up mid job we stop and report it in writing.
We attend induction, work to the construction phase plan and co-operate with the principal contractor. Where we are the only contractor we take on the duties ourselves.
Three certificates, three different jobs
Which one you get is not our choice to make, it is set by what was actually done on site.
| CERTIFICATE | ISSUED FOR | WHAT IT CONFIRMS |
|---|---|---|
| EIC Electrical Installation Certificate | New circuits, rewires and consumer unit changes | The new work meets BS 7671, design through to test |
| MEIWC Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate | A small addition to an existing circuit, such as an extra socket | The addition is safe and does not compromise the circuit it joins |
| EICR Electrical Installation Condition Report | A periodic check of wiring already in service, landlord or otherwise | Whether the existing installation remains safe, with any issues coded and explained |
Definitions per Electrical Safety First's technical guidance. Not sure which one your job needs? Ask us before we start and we will confirm it on the quote.
About our credentials
What does NAPIT approved actually mean?
It means we are assessed under the Competent Person Scheme and the Electrotechnical Assessment Scheme, which lets us self-certify notifiable work under Building Regulations Part P rather than involving your local authority's building control separately. NAPIT still posts out the Building Regulations compliance certificate within 30 days, so the paperwork trail exists either way (NAPIT, Competent Person Scheme).
How do I check your registration is genuine, not just claimed?
Look us up yourself rather than take our word for it. NAPIT membership checks at napit.org.uk under number 23603, and the ECS gold card checks at ecscard.org.uk under card number C0092657. You can also read what past clients say on our reviews page.
Does a rented property legally need an EICR, and how often?
Yes, if it is let in England. The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 require an inspection at intervals of no more than five years, and this has applied to every existing tenancy since 1 April 2021. An owner occupied home carries no equivalent legal duty, though the same five year interval is the usual advice.
Are you insured for main contractor and commercial work, not just domestic?
Yes. The £10m employers' liability, £2m public liability and £500k professional liability cover above applies across our domestic, landlord and subcontract work alike, which is one reason Amberley Construction and our other builder clients have kept us on for years rather than needing a separate policy per contract.
Take what you need for your file
No sign in, no form, no waiting for us to email back. These links always point at the current version, so a link saved last year still opens the document that is in force today.
Our NAPIT scheme certificates and our employers' liability certificate carry our correspondence address, so we send those two direct on request rather than publish them. Scheme registration can be checked independently at napit.org.uk under number 23603, and the ECS card at ecscard.org.uk under C0092657.
Need our paperwork for your file?
Most of it is downloadable above. If you need something that is not there, or a risk assessment for a specific job, ask and we will send it over the same day.
